Alexandra Primary School “School Street” Restrictions

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Alexandra Primary School “School Street” and Red Route “No Stopping” Restrictions - Update

Further to previous correspondence, I am writing to inform you of the outcome of the consultation on proposals to introduce a School Street and red route restrictions around Alexandra Primary School.

The proposals have been approved in part and will ‘go live’ on Monday, 22 May 2023. Full details are provided below.

Consultation Outcome

Consultation on the proposals showed support for the School Street restrictions, and the Council has taken the decision to implement these and not the red route controls. The report setting out the decision can be viewed under Item 18 here: https://democraticservices.hounslow.gov.uk/ieListDocuments.aspx?CId=622&MId=12833

Scheme Details

The school street access restrictions will operate between Monday to Friday, 8.15am to 9.15am and 2.45pm to 3.45pm, during school term time.

During these times, only pedestrians, cyclists, and authorised vehicles are permitted to enter the zone on Denbigh Road from its junction with Kingsley Road to its junction with Elmsworth Avenue and on Tiverton Road from its junction with Denbigh Road to its junction with Ellington Road.

The restrictions will be enforced by the Council through the use of CCTV, which could be either mobile or fixed cameras.

The school asks parents and pupils to walk, scoot or cycle where possible. All unauthorised vehicles trying to enter the restricted areas during the specified times will be issued with a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN).

Following objections during consultation, the proposed double red route “No Stopping” restrictions at the junction of Kingsley Road and Denbigh Road and outside Nos, 135-139 Kingsley Road will not be introduced.

Implementation

Work to erect the traffic signs at the boundary of the zone are due to start shortly, and the scheme will ‘go live’ on Monday, 22 May 2023.

Exemptions

Although the purpose of such schemes is to reduce motor traffic around the school, we recognise that for some families, disabilities or health conditions mean it is not always possible to use other forms of transport.

Pupils with an Education, Health and Care (EHC) plan or holders of blue badges can therefore apply for an exemption which will allow them access to the School Street Zone at all times without penalty. Please note that exemptions do not apply to red route restrictions.

To apply, please email us with your and your child’s name, vehicle registration number, the school your child attends and whether you are a blue badge or EHCP holder to SchoolStreets@hounslow.gov.uk.
