On the 2nd of December we were fortunate enough to be accompanied by Mrs Buchanan to the Civic Centre in Hounslow to be presented with an award for Beat the Street. While we were there, we met the Mayor of Hounslow –Tony Louki, who was a very nice man. There were lots of children from other schools there, who had all taken part in the competition. We soon went inside and the Mayor introduced himself and spoke to us about Beat the Street and his work in Hounslow. The competition took place in September and October this year and involved children from Hounslow schools walking and exploring their local areas while earning points for their team. The people who work with Beat the Street were very happy since traffic during school pick up times was 60 percent less. Alexandra were soon called up where we were presented with the 2nd place prize for the highest average points in Central Hounslow. We were given a framed certificate and a toy hedgehog (the Beat the Street mascot). We then got to take a picture with the Mayor. It was a pleasure to meet the Mayor and receive the award on behalf of all the children at Alexandra Primary School.
