On the 3rd of October 2017 a cross country competition was held at The Heathland School for all the primary schools in Hounslow. This was the first inter-school competition of the 2017-18 calendar and Alexandra had four teams ready to take part.
There were three races for the girls and three races for the boys. The first 2 races were team relay events with each team member running one lap before handing on to the next person. The first race (for boys and girls) was a gruelling 3 x 600m relay. The 2 boys teams were up first and both put in valiant effort. However with over 100 pupils taking part they were not able to place in the top 10. The 2 girls teams put in an equally impressive effort but alas were unable to compete with the top athletes.
The 2nd race was a quick 3 x 300m relay in which only the boys ‘B’ team took part. Again the effort was incredible and the achievement of completing the race is not to be underestimated. Both the girls teams took part in their 3 x 300m race and despite being tired from the first event they ran their hearts out and represented Alexandra with pride.
The final race was a 1200m course to be run as an individual. Only half of the boys chose to run the final race and just completing this race was an impressive achievement in itself. 4 out of the 6 girls chose to run the final distance with all of them completing the race.
While Alexandra didn’t come away with any medals from this event the teams represented the school with dignity and should be proud of their achievement.
