Alexandra Primary School
Kingsley Academy Maths Competition Report

On Friday 3rd October 2017, ten Year 5 students (Humayun, Janasi, Gurloveleen, Tanush, Kai, Anahita, Navind, Aaryan, Cobain and Sanzina) took part in the Kingsley Maths Competition.

There were two other schools competing, with Alexandra splitting into 2 teams. The first was ‘Pythagoras’; represented by Humayun, Janasi, Gurloveleen, Tanush and Kai. In the second group were Anahita, Navind, Aaryan, Cobain and Sanzina representing the ‘Pascal’ group.

The competition consisted of different Maths activities on a carousel basis with teachers from Kingsley Academy on umpire duties, awarding points for correct answers. After lots of hard working we managed to complete the first part of our challenge so we had a break. Each of us took some refreshments. Some of the refreshments were crisps, biscuits, juice, Jaffa cakes, grapes and strawberries.

Following this, it was time for our last activity; a maths treasure hunt. On posters stuck around the hall were word problems for us to solve. After we got our answer, we had to search around the hall for the next poster with the corresponding answer from the previous question. It was lots of fun and challenged our brains. Almost as quickly as it had started, our last activity ended.

To wrap the competition at the end was the award ceremony; it was time to know who won! The Pascal group came third and luckily, our team (Pythagoras) won! We were ecstatic! All of us enjoyed the competition; we were awarded a trophy and certificates!

Special thanks to Mrs Syed and all the wonderful staff at Kingsley Academy for organising the Maths Competition.
