Alexandra Primary School
Tag Rugby Cluster Tournament

On the 2nd of November 2017, Alexandra Primary School took part in our Hounslow Cluster tag rugby tournament. We arrived by mini-bus driven by Mr. Usher. Miss Little came along to support the team. We got our kits and set off at 1:45pm, we reached our destination, St. Mark’s playing fields, in 10 mins and then we warmed up while we waited for the other schools to arrive. Unfortunately, one of the schools, Wellington Primary School, was unable to take part so we had to carry on without them. There were three pitches so three matches could go on at a time.

Our first match was meant to be against Wellington but as they were unable to play we had to wait for our second match which was with Spring Grove B. Miss Goddard who used to work in Year 5 at Alexandra but now works at Spring Grove was there, helping to coach the two Spring Grove teams, Spring Grove A and B.

We tried as hard as we could but we lost the first match against Spring Grove B, 3-0. Their players were very fast and we weren’t able to catch them once them got up to speed. Our next match was with Chatsworth, we used different tactics against them and we were much better but we still lost, 3-2.

Our next match we used the best tactics and drew against Spring Grove A. We were very happy and tried harder for the next match. We were able to stop them getting up to speed by making sure that we started play before they were 5 metres back. This meant that we continued to get our tag score reset to 6.

Our fourth match we also drew against Hounslow Town. The match was amazing and lots of excitement again we used the rules of the game to support our play. However Hounslow Town also had some very fast players.

We were about to go back to school when the organisers of the tournament said we had qualified to play in the cluster finals. The winners of the two final matches would go through to the Hounslow Borough tournament. Our final match was against Chatsworth but they stepped up their game having learned our tactics from the earlier match and we unfortunately lost.

Overall we had lots of fun which was the main thing and will try to do much better the next time we play. We returned to school at 4:30 after an exhausting but fun afternoon.
