Alexandra Primary School Awarded Primary Science Quality Mark
Primary Science Quality Marks have been awarded to 200 infant, junior, primary, middle and special schools to celebrate a commitment to excellence in science teaching and learning. So far, since its national launch in 2010, over 4000 schools across the UK have achieved a prestigious Primary Science Quality Mark.
The Primary School Quality Mark programme ensures effective leadership of science, enables schools to work together to share good practice and is supported by professional development led by local experts. It encourages teacher autonomy and innovation while at the same time offering a clear framework for development in science subject leadership, teaching and learning. Schools that achieve PSQM demonstrate commitment and expertise in science leadership, teaching and learning.
UNICEF Gold- Rights Aware School
The Unicef UK Rights Respecting Schools Award (RRSA) is based on principles of equality, dignity respect, non-discrimination and participation. The RRSA seeks to put the UN Convention on the Rights of the child at the heart of the ethos of the school and culture to improve well-being and develop every child’s talents and abilities to their full potential. We will turn our school into one that is a community where children’s rights are learned, taught, practised, respected, protected and promoted. Young people and the school community learn about children’s rights by putting them into practice every day. A rights respecting school models rights and respect in all its relationships, whether between adults and pupils, between pupils, or between adults. Rights based agreements (charters) are developed to replace traditional rules. These support the language and behaviours of a mutual respect for rights.

Young Carers in School Bronze Award
Alexandra Primary School has been given a Bronze award for their work to make sure students don’t miss out on an education because they are young carers.
The Young Carers in Schools programme helps primary and secondary schools improve outcomes for young carers and celebrates good practice through the Young Carers in Schools Award.
At Alexandra Primary School we are committed to identifying and supporting Young Carers that attend our school. We recognise that these young people may need some extra support. By running a Young Carers group in school, we aim to give children protected time to explore any issues they may be having, with others in a similar situation. It also gives them some protected time to let loose and ‘be a kid’ without the additional worries that they usually have. During the group we play games together, undertake craft or cooking activities, finish homework, etc. The children also have easy access to talk quietly to a trusted adult about issues which may be worrying them.
STARS – Sustainable Travel, Active, Responsible, Safe
Gold Level Accreditation
We are very proud to say that Alexandra Primary School has been recognised for all of the hard work that has been done to ensure safe, healthy and sustainable school travel by receiving accreditation from Transport for London.
The TFL STARS award recognises those schools that work towards inspiring young Londoners to think differently about travel and its impact on health, wellbeing and the environment. We have received this award as a celebration of the many events and learning opportunities that the children have benefitted from which includes activities such as Bikeability, scooter training, pedestrian training, road safety workshops, learning about the benefits of public transport, keeping safe on public transport and the promotion of walking to school through “walk to School” week.
We will continue to encourage sustainable forms of transport and road safety for the health and well-being of pupils, parents, staff and the wider community.
Quality Mark
We are pleased to report that our Quality Mark for Primary Schools has been renewed. The assessor checked our monitoring and evidence of ten different elements such as: leadership and management, support for children with English and Maths and our partnership with parents.
There are many things to be proud of from the report. Here are some key findings from the visit:

“The staff are a strong team and share resources, ideas and information effectively to enrich the curriculum and share best practice.”
“A key strength of the school is its nurturing and caring ethos in supporting the social and emotional needs in order to raise standards by building confidence. All adult stakeholders work as a team to develop pupils’ basic skills and ensure that when they leave the school, they are well-rounded individuals who are well prepared for the next phase of their education. Pupils are very proud of the school and talked enthusiastically about their achievements.”

School Games Gold Award
We are delighted to announce that Alexandra Primary School has achieved the School Games Gold Mark Award for the 2018/19 academic year. We aspired to compete in teams. We performed to the best of our ability and we succeeded!
The School Games Mark is a Government led award scheme launched in 2012. It is facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success. We have developed further Sports provision for our children and entered many competitions to show an application of the skills in a competitive environment. We are driven by our school values such as respect, resilience and reliability and we understand that to achieve sporting excellence takes practise.
Our sporting achievements last year included:
- Our APS Netball team went through to the Hounslow Borough Finals.
- We reached the quarter finals at the Cricket tournament.
- We have a girls football team.
- We have a mixed Hi-Five netball team.
- We organised and held the school's annual Sports Day at a big venue.
- We have achieved the Gold Quality Mark for the third Year running.
With a total of over 175 young people competing in local inter-school competitions this year, we are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of school sport, including those young volunteers, leaders and officials who made our competitions possible.
As part of our application, we were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas of participation, competition, workforce and clubs, and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded this year.

Outstanding achievements of Alexandra Primary School recognised by the Mayor of London - School for Success Award
The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has celebrated the outstanding performance of Alexandra Primary School in Hounslow with an awards ceremony. The ceremony was hosted on Friday 27th September by Deputy Mayor for Education and Childcare Joanne McCartney.
The school was honoured for its work to reduce educational inequality and achieve exceptional results for children who were previously behind in their studies, at a Schools for Success awards ceremony. At Alexandra this was particularly achieved by: Developing whole school attendance rewards and procedures further; Reading strategies developed from Y1 upwards to focus on engagement, inference and love of reading; Maths problem solving using a structure that offered fluency, reasoning and problem solving; Mixed ability teaching of maths and the development of subject vocabulary. Approximately six per cent of London schools are eligible to be members of the Schools for Success programme.
The Schools for Success programme was created by the Mayor in 2017 to improve the support given to children from disadvantaged backgrounds. The programme recognises primary and secondary schools that ensure strong progress for their lowest attaining pupils, has a strong overall performance and shares their work with other schools.

Music Mark
Music Mark’s members recognise that music has a value in and of itself. The pursuit of learning to sing/play an instrument, learning to compose, learning to listen critically and the myriad of other musical skills are valuable in their own right. This is then demonstrated by:

- music boosting children and young people’s social development
- music fostering team work
- music building life skills
- music encouraging creativity and critical engagement
- music being fun and for everyone
